Northview sweeps the Jags

COVINA, CA; (08/30/2013): The Northview Vikings had their way with the Ontario Jaguars in the Jags' season openers this week. The best showing came from Coach Nieves' freshmen team who fell to Northview 0-13. The Varsity Jaguars, who were nursing more than a few injuries, were routed 0-40 at Covina's District Field. The JV squad looked very good for the first three quarters of play, holding the visiting JV Vikings to just one touchdown. Unfortunately, just three minutes later, the Vikings would be up 23-0, where they remained until the final whistle.

Captains: Robert Butanda, Edgar Murillo, Alfonso Bueno & Gilberto Beltran

The greatest casualty came on Friday morning when Varsity Defensive Coordinator Donald Martin was relieved of his duties. Coach Martin was very inspirational and many of his players became visibly emotional upon learning of his departure. Coach Martin contacted to express his gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Jags. It is not known where he'll land, but new coaching opportunities will most-certainly be in his future.

The Jags will next play against Bloomington whom they shut-out in 2012, 34-0. (Photos from the Varsity and JV games are posted in the
